Thousands of birds, mostly Indian mayna, have been killed in Jhenaidah in a hailstorm accompanying a Nor'wester that ripped through parts of Bangladesh. Locals say most of these birds were killed at Moukurhi and Patharbarh villages in Monday morning's storm. Quoting locals, Shailkupa Upazila Livestock Officer Sardar Khairul Bashar said birds of various species lived in bamboo grooves and orchards in the villages. Residents found carcasses of several thousand birds lying scattered after the morning storm. He said the villagers had buried the birds. Earlier this week, a Nor'wester killed at least 29 people in Bangladesh.
