2014 EC ANOTHER ASTEROID FLYBY..EVEN CLOSER: Watch online event!

Via Spaceweather.com

ANOTHER ASTEROID FLYBY: For the second time in as many days, an asteroid is flying through the Earth-Moon system. Yesterday, March 5th, 30-meter asteroid2014 DX110 passed just inside the orbit of the Moon--about 0.9 lunar distances away. Today, March 6th, 10-meter asteroid 2014 EC is coming even closer--only 0.2 lunar distances. Neither space rock poses an immediate threat to Earth. According to NASA, small asteroids thread the Earth-Moon system more than 20 times a year.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO WATCH THE FLYBY LIVE:
The Minor Planet Center just announced the discovery of a 4-14 meters large asteroid, 2014 EC, going to have an amazingly close encounter with the Earth Next Mar 6 at 22:05 UT: the minimum distance from our planet will be of 80.000 km (73.000 km from Earth surface), that is 0.21 times the mean distance of our Moon. It is an absolutely safe distance, so no risks at all of collision.

At Virtual Telescope we will show this small rock live, starting on 6 Mar. 2014, at 19:00 UT.
