A very large Earthquake has occurred in the South Atlantic in the Scotia Sea. The magnitude varies depending on the reporting agency. The reports are as follows:
The USGS initially reported the magnitude at 7.4
Geo-Science Australia is reporting 6.9
The CSEM-EMSC Feed is reporting 6.8
A tsunami statement was issued by RSOE, however, no Tsunami was observed. NOAA National Data Buoy Center has no buoys in the area to observe any deviation in wave heights.
Earthquake magnitudes are sometimes adjusted after data is reviewed more closely, however, this was clearly a very large quake with aftershocks registering 4.8 and 5.0 thus far.
There has definitely been an uptick in Earthquakes this week. I have added a current Earthquake and Volcano map at the top right of this blog for your convenience. To enlarge, turn data on/off, etc. please click the enlarge tab. Will update as warranted.
